We're are preparing for submission for final VISA/MasterCard PABP software certification. This has been a 4 month effort and hundreds of development hours to conclude! (GIFT REGISTRY ADDED)

We are adding a gift registry to the ML v5.8 release, due on or about 9/1/05. This will also include an amazon style "checkout series" of pages, to better handle multiple-ship-to orders, with gift recipients, and so-on. Gift registry will also support anonymous address/recipient mode. ML v5.8 will also validate ALL shipping methods against the customer ship-to address, to prevent (for instance) Hawaii customers from choosing ground shipping, or such things like that. PayPal Payments PRO support will also be released in mL v5.8. We will back fit the PayPal Payments PRO support into the AspDotNetStorefront PRO platform within 2-3 weeks.

XmlPackages will also be enhanced in ML v5.8 to include many of P Moldervan's suggestions, to bring the engine.aspx page on par with all other pages, allowing XmlPackage output to be:

• SE friendly and targeted with kewords, titles, noscript blocks, etc all controlled by the XmlPackages
• Paging support for XmlPackages recordsets/datasets
• Templating of XmlPackage output through specified skin rendering

C# ML v5.7 released today. VB.NET version to follow in approx 1.2 days.

New features include:

1. XmlPackage support.
2. Component Art Tree, Horizontal Menu, and Vertical Menu support
3. New Innova HTML Editor integrated in admin site
4. Additional performance modifications for larger sites
5. Support for PayPal Payments PRO is still in development...

The primary new feature are XmlPackages. XmlPackages are a Patent Pending way by which developers or end-users can extend/alter/change how the ML product displays various pages like category pages, section pages, product pages, the home page, etc. 

For all the users that wanted the table condensed category page format, BUT wanted this field removed, or that field added, or this field moved somewhere else, you can now do that using XmlPackages, without having to recompile any ".net" code, and still have access to all run-time system, environmental, and user data, so the XmlPackages can make informed decisions on what data to display, and how to display it.

AND...the next question is...well, that doesn't sound like a big deal...well consider this, you could now add an XmlPackage to the admin site which produces a report of products sold by month by affiliate if you needed to! Or you can write a custom category page XmlPackage if you only want to show SKU and Manufacturer for products, or hide prices, or show inventory levels in a certain way,e tc. And you don't have to wait for us to do it.

Or you could add a completely new product page layout to your site, without asking or paying us to develop that page as part of the storefront itself.

OR...suppose you want a completely custom home page contents area, that can also now be scripted in XSLT as part of the XmlPackage, and work off of just about any data in the store database!

XmlPackages also allow you to add totally new data driven pages to your site. Similar to "topics pages", which are static HTML block pages, XmlPackages can be invoked to allow you to add new dynamic data-driven pages at run-time. There is a new page in the storefront called engine.aspx which can be used to invoke XmlPackages.

This new engine page now allows you to do things using dynamic data to add totally new pages in your store. For example, suppose you want to have a page which lists the top 5 most heaviliy discounted products in your db. You can now write an XmlPackage to do that, and link to it from your skin. Suppose you need a page which lists the most 25 recently added products in the store, you can write an XmlPackage to do that. And with both packages, you have full control over the data that is being used to generate the page, and the display format used to render the page results. All this is possible by writing .xslt files with the necessary XmlPackage instructions. No change to the asp.net storefront code is required. To deploy a new XmlPackage page to your site, all you have to do is FTP the XmlPackage file to the /XmlPackages directory of your web server and invoke it (presumably after you have tested and debugged it on your development server).

We will be posting 3rd party developed XmlPackage extendions to the storefront in our forums.

The ML version now fully supports the ComponentArt .net controls, including site map, horizontal and vertical menu, and treeview, with complete integration into the skin and database population at run time. This allows you to put a dynamic tree control for categories/sections/manufacturers into your site skin, to provide a unique and helpful sitemap page, and to use a higher performance menu driver. We will continue to support the AspNetExpert menu controls for legacy installs, but have deprecated use of it in ML v5.7+.

OpenCube tree and menu controls are also supported, if required, as an undocumented feature :)

(GOOGLE SITEMAPS SUPPORTED)

We're adding automated Google Sitemap generators for the storefront. This is a VERY VERY important addition for those stores trying to maximize reach on Google, in combination with the static page capabilities of the storefront.

In particular, stores with large numbers of products could see substantial improvements in search rankings using this (of course, Google doesn't "guarantee" anything...).

(RESOURCE STRINGS)

Moved string resource management into the db, instead of using .resx files. You can now add/edit all store strings in the admin site, and even upload Excel files for international language packs.

(PERFORMANCE)

Increased data caching and optimization enhancements for larger storefronts. Most pages now use 75% less db queries than PRO version equivalents.

(DROP SHIPPING)

Drop shipping is also be implemented to allow distributor e-mail notification of pending orders from the storefront. However, drop shipping in this release will NOT factor shipping rate calculations from distributors.

(NEW EXCEL PRODUCT IMPORTER)

Added inline (on the admin site) Xml product import file uploader, and Excel file upload & import (finally, for all you who hate Xml, but know Excel) :)

(WEB FORMS)

Now allows inline web-forms for developers, who are wanting to extend the site functionality by adding their own pages to the solution.

4.3 release allows a number of new features:

• Multiple medium images per product, and dynamic color image changing, and color swatchs. You can now have a grid of N x Colors product images for customers to view and select on the product pages.
• User control of # featured products on home page
• Google and overture tracking codes on order confirmation page,
• Micropay account can be renamed (and used for points systems, etc)
• Froogle feeds expanded to allow UTF-8 format for international customers

Announcement of AspDotNetStorefront MultiLingual Version. The platform will support switching languages in real-time, much like we switch skins in real-time currently. Several language pack accessories will also be available separately for French, German, Spanish, and Italian. Support for Hebrew & Arabic type languages with RTL ordering is also planned. The MultiLingual version will list for $599 US and support the full range of PRO features.

Target release date is early October '04.
