About responsive templates ...
A 'template' is the name for the part of a store's design that runs through every page. Today, with the demise of 'left hand menus' the template is largely made up of the header and the footer.
Typically, we provide templates along with a home page layout. The home page is often the part that influences the choice. A home page will usually be composed of some/all of the following things:
- A banner image - you will choose this - we have a library of images for you to use, or you can upload your own.
- A row of 'featured product groups'. (These might be some key categories, or some key brands.)
- A row of 'featured products'. (These are typically your best-sellers.)
- Some 'welcome' text that tells shoppers a little about your store.
- An image that is pertinent to you - this might be a picture of your building, or your staff, or a group of products.
- The header is deep and DARK. Think hard about how well this suits your logo.
- The search bar is hidden until the shopper clicks the magnifying glass.
- The banner image completely fills the width of the device.
- The 'featured product groups' have a 'shop now' button.
- The 'welcome text' spreads the width of the page, excluding the option for an image in the bottom right corner.
- The logo is centered and takes up the top of the page.
- The search bar is hidden until the shopper clicks the magnifying glass.
- The banner image has white space on both sides.
- There are two smaller images directly beneath the banner image.
- The 'featured product groups' have a 'view all' button.
- The 'welcome text' takes up just part of the width of the page, with a single 'featured product' alongside.
- The header is shallow and light, with a darker menu bar (which has a shadow beneath it).
- The search bar is centered and fairly prominent.
- The banner image has white space on both sides.
- There is space beneath the banner for two (or more) 'calls to action'.
- The 'featured product groups' have a 'shop now' button near the base.
- Beneath the 'featured products groups' there is a text promo, and lower still is a promotional image with a link.
- The 'welcome text' spreads the width of the page, excluding the option for an image in the bottom right corner.
- The 'featured products' element is right at the bottom of the page.
- The header is light, with a logo to the left and your promotional saying in the center.
- The search bar is on the right hand side of the menu bar.
- The banner image completely fills the width of the device.
- The 'featured product groups' have a 'shop now' button.
- The 'featured products' element is immediately underneath the 'featured products groups'.
- The 'welcome text' takes up just part of the width of the page, with a single space for business details alongside.
- The header is 'blocky' and includes the search bar and your promotional message.
- The top menu merges into the header.
- The banner image fills the width of the home page.
- The 'featured product groups' have a 'shop now' in the lower space.
- The 'featured products' element is directly below the 'featured product groups'.
- The 'welcome text' takes up just part of the width of the page, with a single space for business details alongside.
- The social markers are in the footer.
- The header is shallow, and the logo overlays the banner image.
- The top menu is 'hidden' in a dropdown.
- The banner image completely dominates the home page.
- The 'featured product groups' have a 'shop now' on the right hand side.
- There is no 'featured products' element.
- The 'welcome text' takes up just part of the width of the page, with a single space for business details alongside.
- The footer is dark.
