Upgrading AspDotNetStorefront v5.x.x to v6.x.x

Upgrading Instructions:

 

From Version 5.9.7 to v5.9.8 (for example):

  1. Save a full copy of your web site.

  2. Do full DB backup for safety.

  3. Replace all /admin files with the new ones. Restore your EncryptKey and DBConn in your /admin/web.config file.

  4. Replace all / files with new ones.

  5. Restore your EncryptKey and DBConn strings in /web.config.

  6. Restore your /images and /skins dir on top of it again.

  7. Restore any custom /XmlPackages you had created over the new files.

  8. Run any db upgrade scripts (if any) from /db dir.

  9. Should be it. Retest site fully.

 

From Version 5.x to 6.x:

Going from version 5.x to 6.x requires switching to ASP.NET 2.0 and Visual Studio.NET 2005 (if you will be compiling).

Upgrading AspDotNetStorefront from  v5.x to v6.x is quite straight forward. The steps for doing so are as follows (certain points are re-iterated to make certain pertinent data is not lost):

  1. Make a full backup of your website.

  2. Make a full back up of your database.

  3. Ensure that you have a full backup copy of your images directory.

  4. Ensure that you have a full backup copy of your skins directory.

  5. Ensure that you have the Encrypt Key and DBConn string from your web.config file.

  6. Also make sure you have backed up any custom XML Packages.

  7. Remove the EntityHelper folder both at the root and the admin directory.

  8. Remove the XmlPackages folder both at the root and the admin directory.

  9. Upload the latest version of AspDotNetStorefront onto your server via FTP.

  10. Run the necessary database upgrade scripts in the db folder (keep in mind the above step).

  11. In IIS, change the ASP.NET version for your website from ASP.NET v1.1 to ASP.NET v2.0.

  12. Upload your images directory.

  13. Upload your skins directory.

  14. Begin testing.

NOTES:

 

From Version 6.0.5.1 to 6.0.5.4:

  1. Backup your existing database.

  2. Replace all your /admin files with the new ones, and restore you EncryptKey and DBConn strings in your /admin/web.config file.

  3. Backup your existing site files.

  4. Replace all your / files, EXCEPT your /skins and /images dir. Note: If you have altered any of our default XmlPackages, you must also save those first and then restore them.

  5. Reset your EncryptKey an DBConn strings in your /web.config file.

  6. No database mods are required.

  7. Restart the web site (click here for how to do this)
